USF St. Petersburg Presents Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

The USF St. Peterburg College of Education will host basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Sunday, March 1 at 1 p.m. in the USF St. Petersburg Campus Activities Center.

Abdul-Jabbar will speak about America's greatest black heroes, delivering an important and inspiring message of African-Americans' contributions to their country.

This event is free and open to the public and is presented by the Debbie and Brent Sembler Florida Holocaust Museum Lecture Series at the College of Education.

Since retiring as a player in 1989, Abdul-Jabbar has balanced his love of basketball with his love of history. A bestselling author, his latest book is On The Shoulders of Giants: My Journey Through the Harlem Renaissance. He has written eight other books mostly focused on African-American culture and history. Since 2005, he has been the special assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers.
