USF Center for Entrepreneurship Hosts Business Plan Competition

TAMPA, Fla. (March 30, 2009) – USF students who aspire to be entrepreneurs may have the opportunity to realize their business vision by participating in a business plan competition in April.

Open to companies that are legal entities in the State of Florida with at least one current USF student in the ownership group, the 2009 Fintech Business Plan Competition includes a cash prize courtesy title sponsor Financial Information Technologies, Inc. (Fintech) as well as other in-kind awards.

The winning team will receive:
Cash award from Fintech
Accounting assistance from Cherry Bekaert & Holland
Legal assistance from Fowler White Boggs
Facility space at STAR TEC for one year.

Competing companies must be legal entities in the State of Florida (e.g. C Corp, S Corp, LLC, LLP) with at least one current USF student in the ownership group. Business concepts from non-business academic units are welcomed; early stage companies are preferred.

The first-round competition judging panel will be comprised of Center for Entrepreneurship board members and faculty. Finalists will be judged by a panel of seven to eight judges with a representative from Fintech, Fowler White Boggs, Cherry Bekaert & Holland, and STAR TEC. Other judges may be added.

Business plan submissions are due April 24, 2009 and finalists will be notified on May 1. A prep session for finalists will be held on May 4. The formal competition is May 8, 2009 and will begin with presentations followed by a 15-minute Q&A (30 minutes total for each presentation.) The judges will then convene to make their decision, and announce the winners at the awards luncheon.

Fintech is the leader in processing regulated invoices electronically, serving over 157,000 relationships in 50 states. It is the only company operating nationally whose services allow retailers purchasing beer, wine, and spirits to pay their distributors electronically from headquarters rather than with currency, check or money order at each of the retailers’ individual locations.
