Byers Joins Office of Research & Innovation
TAMPA, Fla. (April 16, 2009) -- Cheryl L. Byers, MHA, CIP has joined USF’s Office of Research & Innovation as director of Research Integrity & Compliance.
As director, one of Byers’ primary responsibilities will be to oversee the development and implementation of eIRB – a web-based electronic protocol submission software for the Institutional Review Board (IRB). In her new position, Byers will lead the effort to hire a human research protection program manager who will head AAHRPP initiatives and ensure the continued accreditation of the human research protection program at USF. She will also maintain a compliant select agent program.
Byers comes to USF from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C. where she served as IRB director in the Office of Research. She also has held positions as clinical research manager for the Department of Public Health Sciences and as project manager for the Department of Public Health Sciences, Section on Social Sciences & Health Policy.
Byers holds a bachelor’s degree in health education from East Carolina University and a master of health administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She has presented at numerous meetings and conferences nationwide on a wide variety of clinical research and health-related topics.
