Support the USF Community Holiday Tree

TAMPA, Fla. (December 14, 2009) – The USF community is aware that some employees may be especially challenged this holiday season due to the economic conditions and spouses/partners who may be out of work. As a result, many employees may be looking at a particular hardship this year in order to provide gifts to their children. As a community, we would like to help ensure that employees’ families in this situation are able to celebrate the holidays and ensure that their children will have a joyous, magical season.

To help spread the magic of giving, we have developed a “USF Community Holiday Tree” so that parents (employees) can discreetly submit their children’s wishes for the holiday season. Fellow employees will then be able to anonymously sponsor one or more of the children from the tree with a holiday gift.

Due to the timing this year, our tree will be a “virtual” tree that will be garnished with tags of requests that we receive from our community. We have developed a Web site that contains more detailed information on how to give and how to receive which can be accessed at Gifts will be collected from Dec. 14 - 21 at various locations that will be established around the Tampa campus and then distributed to the parents of the children on the list on Dec. 22 - 23.

Gifts should range from $15 - $25

A list of suggested items (“wish list”) for each child on the tree will be provided to the sponsor.

No last names will be provided. All sponsors will receive the first name of the child, his or her age, gender, and up to five desired items on their holiday list.

Gifts should be unwrapped and marked with the first name of the child and a corresponding number that the gift-giver will receive (used for identification purposes only). That will enable us to get the correct gifts to the correct parents.

Unfortunately, we may have more tags than sponsors, so we cannot guarantee a gift for every name.
