USF Competes in National RecycleMania Competition
TAMPA, Fla. (January 29, 2010) -- Through the partnership of USF’s Office of Sustainability, USF Dining and the USF Student Environmental Association, USF is enrolled as a competitor in the tenth annual RecycleMania contest.
USF is up against several Florida Universities, including UF, FSU, MU, FGCU, FIU and UCF. RecycleMania is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities.
Sunday, Jan. 17 marked the beginning of the 2010 competition. A record number of colleges and universities across the United States, Canada and as far away as Qatar, have begun collecting their recycling and trash weights as part of the first two weeks of trials. Week one rankings will be posted to the Results page on Friday, Jan. 29.
RecycleMania will run ten weeks until March 27. With each week’s reports and rankings, participating schools watch how their results fluctuate against other schools and use this to rally their campus communities to reduce and recycle more.
2010 national winners will receive a permanent award with their school name, competition category and year inscribed. Winners will be acknowledged in a public awards ceremony at a recycling industry event to be determined.
Look for posters, flyers and a banner in MSC promoting the USF Community to recycle more. Pitch in, love your planet and recycle as much as you can to help USF win! For more information about the competition, visit www.recyclemania.org
