TAMPA, Fla. (August 13, 2010) – The dreaded “Freshman 15.” It’s a possibility that no new student wants to face. But with so much free food available on campus during the first few weeks of classes, it’s easy to see how the pounds can pile on.

For 11 days straight, USF is celebrating the new school year with the Week of Welcome (WOW). The annual event engages new and returning students to get involved in campus life. There are more than 100 events to choose from, with a majority of them providing free food.

But even with all the plate passing, the Bulls still want students to beat the belly bulge. So they’re providing numerous games and activities in which students can participate. WOW encourages students to jump, bike, throw, kick, swim or dance their way into USF student life.

“It’s encouraging healthy habits. This is the first time you’re going to be away from home with the ability to buy the foods you like, eating until 2 or 3 in the morning. WOW is a great way for students to learn how they can stay active in fun ways,” said WOW Peer Advisor Leader Nicole John.

Lace up those sneakers, grab a friend or two, and get ready for some good old fashioned friendly competition with these WOW events!
