TAMPA, Fla. (September 9, 2010) – The University of South Florida Career Center believes in USF students.

And to help students reach their full potential, the Career Center is launching a new campaign to make students aware of the services available to them through the center.

“The ‘We Believe’ campaign is an initiative to actively engage our students in career development. We believe students can and will succeed if they use our services,” said Director of the Career Center Drema Howard.

Each year, the USF Career Center helps thousands of students plan their careers and search for jobs. Through the Career Center, students can receive career counseling, practice interviewing, develop employability skills, attend workshops, and receive resume critiques, among other things. The Career Center also serves USF faculty, staff and alumni.

“In this economy, it’s a little tougher and a little more competitive. Students are now competing with seasoned professionals for the same positions. Why not have someone you can go to that can help keep you on track and prepare you for the professional field?” Howard said.

The 2010-11 Career Center “We Believe” campaign officially kicks off Thursday, September 9 at the biannual Part-Time Job Fair. Students will have the opportunity to speak with potential employers about their part-time positions. On several occasions, students have been hired by local employers on the spot.

Some of the more than 30 employers in attendance include Busch Gardens, Hillsborough County Public Schools, USF Human Resources, State Farm Insurance and RGA Architects LLC. The job fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the SVC Breezeway. Casual attire is accepted.

At the job fair, students can also participate in a video game bowling competition, as part of the We Believe campaign kickoff. Once students check in at the fair, they can play a round of Wii Bowling on the Nintendo Wii gaming system. Those who successfully bowl a strike will be entered to win a Nintendo Wii gaming system provided by Geico, Inc.

Throughout the fall and spring semester, students will also have the opportunity to win an Apple iPad through the We Believe campaign. Every few weeks, a trivia question will be posted on the Career Center website. To enter, students must watch a video and then fill out a survey answering whether the Career Center-related trivia is “Believe-a-Bull or Not.” At the end of the spring semester, one student winner will be chosen.

“Choosing a major or a career can be stressful. Job searches can be stressful. This is our way of making it a fun venture for students,” Howard said.
