Tickets Available for Oct. 1 WLP Symposium

Annual event features choreographer, dancer and entrepreneur Twyla Tharp.

TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 21, 2010) – Tickets are still available for the 2010 USF Women in Leadership and Philanthropy (WLP) Fall Symposium. The keynote speaker for the event will be internationally recognized choreographer, dancer, businesswoman, and entrepreneur Twyla Tharp.

The symposium will take place on Friday, Oct. 1 at A La Carte Event Pavilion in Tampa. Morning workshops will begin at 10 a.m. The keynote speaker and luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. Table sponsorships are $1,200 for a table of 8 and include recognition in the event program. Individual tickets are $100.00 and are available at http://usf.edu/ua/adwlp/tickets.

The fall symposium raises money for the WLP Scholarship and Program Endowments.

Tharp is a graduate of Barnard College. Her entrepreneurial drive led her to found Twyla Tharp Dance Company in 1965. She has choreographed more than 135 dances, five Hollywood movies, and directed and choreographed four Broadway shows. She has received numerous awards including one Tony Award, two Emmy Awards, nineteen honorary doctorates, the 2004 National Medal of the Arts, and a 2008 Kennedy Center Honor.

In addition to choreographing for her own company, she has created dances for The Joffrey Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Hubbard Street Dance, and the Martha Graham Dance Company.
