Two New USF Trustees Named

TAMPA, Fla. (Jan. 21, 2011) – Two University of South Florida alumni, Stephanie Goforth and Dr. Louis Saco have been named to the University of South Florida Board of Trustees by the Florida Board of Governors.
Goforth is a senior vice president and wealth strategists manager for the west coast of Florida for Northern Trust. She serves as a member of the USF St. Petersburg Regional Campus Board.
Dr. Louis Saco is CEO and Chairman of Watson Clinic, a Lakeland-based physicians’ group of more than 200 board-certified doctors offering 40 specialties. He practices gastroenterology, internal medicine as well as colon and rectal surgery.
“The university’s newest board members know USF well and have shown how much they care about our students and all we do here, Ms. Goforth on the USF St. Pete Campus Board and Dr. Saco, as a speaker at the College of Business,” said USF President Judy Genshaft. “We welcome their increased participation as part of the board in guiding our institution to ever greater accomplishments and successes.”
With more than 24 years of trust, investment and banking experience, Goforth joined Northern Trust in 2005. She is based out of the downtown St. Petersburg office where she is responsible for managing all aspects of the region’s trust sales activities. Before this, she was with Bank of America where she was a senior vice president, private client advisor and city executive responsible for all components of private client business in St. Petersburg. Prior to joining Bank of America in 1995, she worked with SunTrust Bank and First Florida Bank (Barnett Bank). She earned her B. A. from USF with a major in business management.
Goforth holds the series 7, 6, 63 and 66 licenses and is a certified financial planner. She is a current board member and Treasurer of All Children’s Hospital Foundation, the CASA Board of Trustees, the Heroes of St. Petersburg Board and the St. Petersburg YMCA. She is also past president of the Suncoaster’s-Festival of States Organization.
Dr. Saco provides care from one of Florida’s largest multi-specialty medical groups, a medical establishment that is among the most respected in the southeast. The board-certified gastroenterologist has been with the clinic since 1981 and has served as CEO and chairman of the board since 2001. The Watson Clinic and Dr. Saco have been among USF’s greatest supporters with donating student scholarships and helping to rebuild USF’s orthopedic residency program among other initiatives.
He divides his time between his busy practice and his role as medical director of Lakeland Surgical & Diagnostic Center and has been the team physician for the Detroit Tigers and Lakeland Tigers Baseball Team since 1985. Dr. Saco is also a member of the board of directors of numerous organizations including Volunteers in Service to the Elderly, the Learning Resource Center and Florida Southern College, all located in Lakeland.
Dr. Saco completed his medical degree at Georgetown University School of and an internal medicine internship and residency from Georgetown University Hospital. Saco then went on to complete a Gastroenterology Fellowship in the Division of Digestive Disease and Nutrition, Department of Medicine at University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, N.C. He earned a master’s degree in business from USF.
