TAMPA, Fla. (Jan. 26, 2011) – When two helicopters land in Fowler Field on the University of South Florida campus this Thursday, Jan. 27, there should be no cause for alarm.  The Navy SH-60s are a show of support for USF’s Naval ROTC unit as a part of Tampa Bay Navy Week being celebrated in conjunction with Airfest.

They are scheduled to arrive around 1 p.m. Navy, Army, and Air Force students will have the opportunity to take a close look until their departure at 1:45 p.m.

“This is a great opportunity for the future aviators of America’s military to get a glimpse of one of the many possible choices of platforms to fly,” said Lt. Roger D. Phelps, Jr., assistant professor of Naval science in the NROTC program and a naval aviator himself who flew the P-3C Orion. “It is important that we expose our students to what is ahead of them in order for them to make the best and most informed decisions when it comes to their future in the military.”
