Piero Rivolta, a novelist and poet, will discuss his manifesto, “A Need for Poetry – A Manifesto.”

TAMPA, Fla. (Mar. 25, 2011) – Novelist and poet Piero Rivolta will discuss The Need for Poetry – A Manifesto at the University of South Florida Marshall Student Center in Room 4103, Mar. 29 at 6 p.m.  Following his presentation he will hold a question and answer session moderated by Patrizia La Trecchia, an assistant professor in the USF Italian Studies program in the Department of World Languages.  Afterwards, at 7:30 p.m. guests are invited to a reception with refreshments.

Rivolta believes, “We need to see and interpret the world in a more poetic way, and with simplicity. We need an infusion of poetry in life, in books, in movies, in the arts and even in government and business – to make everything simpler and more real.”

The Italian industrialist and philanthropist is the son of Renzo Rivolta, the founder of the car manufacturer Iso Rivolta, known worldwide.  Iso Rivolta is the designer of the iconic egg-shaped Isetta “bubble car” manufactured in the 1950’s.

“We are very fortunate to have Piero Rivolta for this rare appearance and we are very excited about this opportunity to engage in a dialogue about his philosophy,” La Trecchia said.
