Introducing the Patel School of Global Sustainability

TAMPA, Fla. (May 4, 2011) - USF’s efforts to provide cutting edge research and education in global sustainability will now all be housed under one entity with a new name: The Patel School of Global Sustainability.

The new entity will house the Patel Center for Global Solutions, the School of Global Sustainability and the Office of Sustainability – which have all become familiar names on campus leading the university’s global sustainability education, research and action initiatives. (View diagram.) Kala Vairavamoorthy, who joined USF in 2010 as the founding director of USF’s School of Global Sustainability as well as the Patel Center, will oversee the Patel School of Global Sustainability with the title of director.

Vairavamoorthy, an internationally-recognized figure in world water issues, said the new Patel School of Global Sustainability will continue USF’s focus on interdisciplinary research, design, and education that can be quickly translated into real-world solutions. It will provide advanced research and training in five key areas: water, energy, security, entrepreneurship, and environmental science and policy.

The new entity carries the name of Drs. Kiran C. and Pallavi Patel. To read more about the efforts, click here.
