SRI International CEO at ResearchOne Kick-Off on Sept. 22
The event features an exhibit show on innovation, showcasing exciting new products and inventions developed at USF. The event is free and open to the public, and includes a reception.
CEO of SRI International since 1998, Carlson is the author of "Innovation: The Five Disciplines for Creating What Customers Want," selected by BusinessWeek magazine as one of its Best Business Books of 2006. Carlson is the winner of an Emmy® Award for the creation of HDTV and has helped to found more than 12 companies. He is a widely sought out speaker and thought leader on global competitiveness and a founding member of the Innovation Leadership Council for the World Economic Forum. He serves on the President's National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and advises U.S. governors and prime ministers, economic ministers, and education ministers around the world on innovation, competitiveness, and educational reform.
SRI International, one of the largest contract research institutes in the world, has been involved in the discovery and development of numerous technologies and products, including automatic check processing, Academy Award® winning Technicolor developments, the computer mouse and the first internet. SRI has pioneered breakthroughs in artificial intelligence for robotics and mobile devices, wireless communication, drug discovery, ultrasound, stealth technology, education research, minimally invasive surgery, speech translation and recognition, smart materials, and national defense.
The Kick-Off Event launches the Office of Research & Innovation’s new, year-round format for ResearchOne, which features activities and events highlighting the work of researchers across the USF System. Formerly a single week of events held each fall, ResearchOne has expanded to showcase USF research-related events and activities held throughout the year.
"Our goal remains to stimulate researchers and others throughout the university to learn more about the innovative work of their colleagues," said Karen Holbrook, Senior Vice President for Research, Innovation & Global Affairs.
The ResearchOne website provides information on research-related events and a calendar of events. Event organizers are invited to submit events to the calendar and apply for limited funding via an online form.
