Emergency Siren Test at 6 p.m. Today
TAMPA, Fla. (Aug. 12, 2011) – Testing of the emergency siren system has been moved up a week to Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at 6 p.m. For testing purposes, Westminster Chimes are used. The test was previously scheduled to be conducted Friday, Aug. 19th.
But the system was knocked off-line last week after being struck by lightning during a thunderstorm. To insure the system has been properly repaired and functioning properly, the test has been moved up a week.
Periodic testing of the emergency siren system is part of the university’s ongoing commitment to the safety of its students, faculty, staff and visitors. Located throughout the USF Tampa campus, the eight emergency stations house a siren, loudspeaker and a strobe light. The sirens are not intended to reach individuals inside buildings or facilities on campus.
