TAMPA, Fla. (Aug. 31, 2011) – At the new Champion’s Choice dining facility, nutrition will be at diners’ fingertips – literally.
The newest USF dining hall is serving up healthy meals, including gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options, on a menu prepared by a registered dietician. The nutritional information for each menu item will be on display – on 10 iPads placed throughout the facility.
Champion’s Choice was created to help USF students better meet the physical demands of college life through healthier food options. Between early classes and late-night study sessions, healthy eating habits can tumble down students’ priority lists. USF wants to change that. Read more about USF’s Wellness Initiative here.
The new dining facility is divided into four food stations: the Gold Energy Zone, Grille FiftySix, the Comfort Zone and the Fresh & Green Zone. The Gold Energy Zone provides high carbohydrate foods, such as whole grain pasta and flatbreads. Grille FiftySix features nutrient dense items and lean proteins like grilled chicken and vegetables. Student looking for traditional campus dining can visit the Comfort Zone for healthy twists on classic meals. For those craving sandwiches or salads, the Fresh & Green Zone offers made-to-order sandwiches and fresh, locally-grown produce from the salad bar.
Students will want to come back for drink refills again and again at the Hydration Zone. More than 100 different drinks are available at the new Coca-Cola Freestyle machine, which features a touch-screen drink menu. Beyond soda, Champion’s Choice is the only dining facility on campus that offers Starbuck’s Coffee. In the Hydration Zone, students can also opt for a healthier dessert with frozen yogurt.
Champion’s Choice now houses USF’s second Jamba Juice. Diners will find nutritious on-the-go food options, in addition to Jamba Juice’s beverages. Located at the front of the dining hall, this is the ideal spot for diners with limited time.
Before diners head to the facility, they can check out the menu online at http://usfdining.com. On the USF Dining website, visitors will find daily menus for Champion’s Choice, as well as the Fresh Food Company, Bulls Den Café, On Top of the Palms and Juniper Dining.
Diners on the go can take advantage of USF Dining’s take-out program. Students can use the reusable to-go boxes to take their meals on the move, then return the container the next time they visit the facility. For patrons eating in, the dinnerware is also eco-friendly. The dinnerware is made from natural bamboo, and is biodegradable.
Champion’s Choice is open to the public and accepts meal plans, dining dollars, debit, credit and cash. For more information on USF Dining and their 24 other dining locations visit http://usfdining.com.
