TAMPA, Fla. (October 12, 2011) – The University of South Florida is hosting its first-ever social media scavenger hunt this month.
The campus-wide event, which coincides with USF Homecoming SuperBull XV, encourages students to explore the campus in a unique way. Throughout the week of October 17, students will have the opportunity to win prizes by connecting with the University on social media.
The scavenger hunt will utilize each of the University’s official social media sites, including the newest addition, Foursquare. The location-based social network allows users to virtually “check-in” to physical locations. In addition to Foursquare, the event will incorporate Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and YouTube.
Only USF students can take part in the event. To participate, students will need a Twitter and Foursquare account. From their accounts, students should follow USF on Twitter and Foursquare. Students will also need a GPS-capable phone and valid USF student ID.
From October 17 through the 21, representatives will be stationed at a different mystery location on campus each day. Throughout the day, clues about the location will be tweeted from the @USFNews Twitter account. Once students solve the clues, they must go to the location during a specific time frame, which will also be tweeted.
Upon arrival, students should check-in to the venue using the Foursquare App on their cell phone. After checking in, they will then need to locate the table with a blue Foursquare sign. There they will be able to show a representative their student ID and check-in message on their phone to claim their prize.
Prizes include t-shirts, hats, visors, bracelets, dining coupons, notebooks, SkullCandy ear buds, one HP Printer, one iPod Touch and more. Students should be quick, as prizes are limited!
One grand prize winner will earn the iPod Touch. To be eligible to win the grand prize, students must check into all five mystery locations on the correct days and like USF Information Technology on Facebook. The grand prize winner will be the first person who checks in on Friday that has done these two tasks. The second person to do so will be the runner-up and win an HP Printer.
