Arrest Made In Robbery
The robbery of a USF student prompted University Police to issue an alert Saturday night.
TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 23, 2011) – University Police arrested a 17-year-old juvenile Tampa resident Sunday morning in connection with the armed robbery of a University of South Florida student, which prompted police to issue an alert Saturday night.
The student, who was in a parked car in a parking lot adjacent to Fletcher Avenue, was not injured in the 9:40 p.m. incident. The three men, who demanded money at gunpoint from the student, fled in a westerly direction off campus.
University Police, assisted by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies on patrol and by helicopter, searched the area immediately after the robbery but did not locate the suspects. Following the report of the robbery, police initiated a university-wide email and text alert that was sent out to notify the community to stay alert and avoid the area. An all clear was issued around midnight.
University Police spokesman Chris Daniel said the juvenile was arrested Sunday morning. The incident remains under investigation, he said. Anyone with information is asked to contact University Police at 813-974-2628.
