The Pharmacy Benefit on Most Plans Changed as of Jan. 1

The Pharmacy Benefit on Most Plans Changed to Medco as of Jan. 1, 2012.

The pharmacy benefits manager for all health insurance plans (except Medicare Advantage plans) will now be Medco.

Current plan provisions will generally remain the same. For PPO Plan members, this includes the required mail-order for maintenance prescription drugs after three retail pharmacy fills.

Medco's preferred drug list and maintenance drug list may vary from your current list, which means copayment tiers for certain brand-name prescriptions may change. Visit Medco's website for the State Employees' Prescription Drug Plan for more information.

For existing mail-order customers, Medco will coordinate with your current pharmacy benefits manager to transfer any open and eligible mail-order prescriptions. Some medications, such as controlled substances or compound medications, may require a new prescription from your doctor.

For information about Medco's mail-order process, call (877) 531-4793, or visit Medco's website for the State Employees' Prescription Drug Plan. Starting January 1, 2012, Prescription Drug Plan members should log in to Medco's website.

Look for your new Prescription Drug Plan member ID cards that were mailed in December. Remember to show your card when you have a prescription filled on or after Jan. 1, 2012.
