TAMPA, Fla. – The Bulls made history in March when the University of South Florida men's basketball team scored an invitation to the NCAA tournament - their first trip to the Big Dance in two decades.
"It is exhilarating, exciting and such an opportunity for all of our student-athletes, and particularly our seniors who have worked so hard and deserve this opportunity to play," USF President Judy Genshaft said after USF was selected for the tournament. "We're proud. Go Bulls."
The Bulls traveled to Dayton, Ohio, to win their first NCAA playoff, beating out California 65-54. The team advanced to Nashville, Tenn., where they knocked out Temple with a 58-44 victory. Despite their early lead against Ohio in the third round of the tournament, the Bulls' great showing ended in a 62-56 loss.
Overall, the team had a fantastic and memorable season, from setting new program records to Coach Stan Heath being named Big East Coach of the Year. The USF community gathered for a pep rally Wednesday, March 21, to show their support and welcome back the men's basketball team.
