USF Facebook Launches New Timeline

TAMPA, Fla. (April 4, 2011) – Facebook users may have recently noticed a change in the look of their friend’s personal profiles. The social networking site is rolling out a new design for all users, but they’re not the only ones getting a virtual makeover.

Facebook pages, like the University of South Florida Facebook page, underwent a drastic transformation in March, giving users a more customized experience. Last week, USF officially launched the Timeline format, providing several new ways to interact with the university.

Fans can see where it all began using the "milestones" feature. We’ve gone all the way back to the founding of USF in 1956, pointing out several historic USF events along the way. Users can scroll through the years using a navigation bar on the right side of our page. With numerous vintage photos, users can see what life was like at USF before their time here.

For USF fans who want to show their Bull Pride on Facebook, we’ve created several USF-themed cover photos to download. In our photos app, users will find a photo album titled "USF Facebook Cover Photos." Users who have switched their personal profile to the Timeline format can download their favorite photo from our album, and then upload it to their Timeline.

Users who have specific questions about the university, but don’t want to post on our Facebook page, can now send a direct message to the page. These messages are private, only seen by the USF Facebook managers. Suggestions will be forwarded to the appropriate department, so let us know what you think about USF.

To better reach our fans, we’ve created a customized app that shows users the many ways they can connect with the university. On the "Connect With Us" app, fans will find links to our other social networking sites, and the iUSF app, among other things.

But fans don’t have to leave Facebook to see some of our other social networking sites. In addition to the Connect With Us app, we have added YouTube and Twitter apps. Directly on our Facebook page, users can now watch YouTube videos from the USF YouTube Channel and read tweets from the @USFNews Twitter account.
