USF Dining/ARAMARK Hosting Events to Promote Sustainability
Tampa, FL, April 17, 2012 – University of South Florida Dining/ARAMARK will be joining with close to a billion people around the globe to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, 2012. USF Dining/ARAMARK will host several campus wide events that highlight the importance of environmental stewardship with the goal of encouraging students, staff and visitors to ensure that Every Day is Earth Day.
"While Earth Day is celebrated once a year, our goal is to engage the campus community in sustainable practices that they can incorporate into their lives each and every day," said Tom Williamson, Resident District Manager, USF Dining/ARAMARK. "By considering that Every Day is Earth Day, we can positively impact our campus, local community and planet all at the same time."

Try a Meatless Monday. By cutting out meat once per week at a single meal, you can help reduce your impact on the environment. Every Monday at the four dining halls-Juniper Dining, Fresh Food Company, Bulls Den Café and Champion’s Choice look for our meatless options. Also receive $1.00 off our vegan Macro Vegetarian, Suneen and Karen Sisters products at Coba Café, the MSC food court, the POD Markets at Andros, Juniper-Poplar Hall and Toro’s at Champion’s Choice.
Dim or Turn Off the Lights to save energy and generate awareness about the importance of reducing energy consumption. Energy consumption currently accounts for approximately 39 percent of all greenhouse gases emitted, a major impact to the environmental footprint on campus. Take part in saving energy on Sunday, April 22, from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. at Champion’s Choice, as we dim the lights to save energy. Enjoy a special Earth Day Farm 2 Fork menu featuring dishes prepared with seasonal locally grown produce including a black bean and corn salad, carrot cucumber spinach sprout baguette, Asian flank steak and more!
Celebrate the Earth during a special Farm 2 Fork Meal at Juniper Dining on April 25 from 10:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. that features more local, seasonal, vegan and vegetarian offerings like baked Alaskan Pollock garden style, vegetable lasagna, roasted vegetable calzone, tabouleh and much more.
On April 26 at On Top of the Palms enjoy a Farm 2 Fork Meal from 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. that features more local, seasonal, vegan and vegetarian offerings including ginger braised pork banh mi sliders, curried citrus quinoa salad, glazed organic root vegetable casserole, 10 spice glazed wild salmon, organic greens with a fresh organic vinaigrette and more.
Beyond campus events, ARAMARK has expanded its partnership with the Student Conservation Association (SCA), a nationwide conservation force of college and high school students who protect and restore America's parks, forests, refuges, seashores and communities. During the month of April, ARAMARK will be partnering with SCA to host a variety of volunteer events throughout the country.
Additionally, ARAMARK, in partnership with SCA, is offering career opportunities to young professionals through its Environmental Sustainability Internship Program. The program provides participants with hands-on environmental job experience as they help implement solutions for clients at schools, universities, businesses and other locations across the country.
