TAMPA, Fla. (April 26, 2012) – A Guinness World Record in a brand-new category was established Wednesday at the University of South Florida when 288 students and other participants qualified for the greatest number of people participating in a speed mixer at a single venue.

The speed mixer, also referred to as “speed dating,” was sponsored by Verizon Wireless Careers as part of “The Buried Life Megatour”, a yearlong series of university-speaking engagements by the cast of MTV’s “The Buried Life.”

Twenty, three-minute rounds were held, with a minimum of 250 participants required to establish the record. The mixer started with 343 and 55 were eliminated by the final round for straying off the topic of “What I want to do before I die.”

At the end of the mixer, after the final foghorn was sounded, USF was rewarded with a certificate from Philip Robertson, a Guinness World Record Adjudicator.
