USF Commencement Weekend

TAMPA, Fla. (April 30, 2012) – In May, the University of South Florida will grant more than 6,000 diplomas to students at the spring commencement ceremonies throughout the USF System.  There will be a total of five ceremonies held in Tampa over the course of two days - Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5, at the newly-renovated Sun Dome.  The schedule for the Tampa ceremonies is as follows.

Friday, May 4 Ceremonies at the Sun Dome:

Friday, May 4 at 1:30 p.m.

The 1:30 p.m. ceremony will recognize undergraduates from the College of Arts & Sciences School of Social Sciences. More than 700 graduates are anticipated to attend.

 

Friday, May 4 at 6:00 p.m.

The 6 p.m. ceremony will recognize undergraduates from the College of Arts & Sciences School of Humanities and School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. More than 700 graduates are anticipated to attend.

Saturday, May 5 Ceremonies at the Sun Dome:

Saturday,  May 5 at 9 a.m.

The 9 a.m. ceremony will recognize undergraduates from the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences and the College of Business. More than 700 graduates are anticipated to attend.

 

Saturday, May 5, at 1:30 p.m.

The 1:30 p.m. ceremony will recognize undergraduates from the Colleges of Education, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, The Arts and Undergraduate Studies. More than 700 graduates are anticipated to attend.

 

Saturday, May 5, at 6 p.m.

The 6 p.m. ceremony will recognize graduate students from all colleges. More than 700 graduates are anticipated to attend.

 

Other Tampa ceremonies include the USF College of Medicine, for the conferring of the Medical Degree, which will take place on Friday, May 4, at 10 a.m. at the Straz Center, and the Honors College will also hold three special ceremonies which will take place on Wednesday, May 2 in Traditions Hall in the Gibbons Alumni Center on the Tampa campus at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

 

Other USF System ceremonies include USF Sarasota-Manatee on Sunday, May 6 at 2 p.m. at the Manatee Convention Center; USF St. Petersburg on Sunday, May 6 at 6 p.m. at the Mahaffey Theatre; and USF in Lakeland on Monday, May 7 at 7 p.m. at Youkey Theatre.   

 

Various awards and honors will be given during the Tampa ceremonies including an Honorary Doctor of Humane letters degree to Norman Gant, M.D. at the Friday, 10 a.m. College of Medicine ceremony; a President’s Global Leadership Award to Gabriella Ganugi , Ph.D., Founder of Palazzi Florence Association for International Education at the Saturday, 1:30 p.m. ceremony; and a second President’s Global Leadership Award to Professor Sir Steve Smith, Vice Chancellor of Exeter University at the Saturday, 6 p.m. ceremony.

 

Eighteen students in the USF System have been identified as King O’Neal Scholar candidates earning a cumulative grade point average of 4.0. Student Body President Matt Diaz will be earning a B.A. in political science and a B.A. in philosophy from the College of Arts and Sciences, and will be named as the Outstanding Graduate by the USF Alumni Association.

 

Total USF System degrees: 6,037.  USF Tampa will award 5,136 degrees including 3,878 Bachelors; 1,086 Masters; and 168 Doctoral and Specialists.
