ROTC Commissioning Ceremonies

TAMPA, Fla. (May 3, 2012) – The University of South Florida Army ROTC program commissions 28 Second Lieutenants Thursday in ceremonies at the Marshall Student Center. 


The USF Army ROTC program (the Suncoast Battalion), which includes Saint Leo University, USF St. Petersburg, Clearwater Christian College, St. Pete College, and Eckerd, will commission a total of 52 Second Lieutenants into the Army this year.


Major General Karl Horst, Chief of Staff of the United States Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, provided comments on leadership during the ceremony, which was held in the main ballroom.


The Suncoast Battalion is one of 273 Army ROTC programs in the Nation and was recognized in 2010 by the Order of the Founders and Patriots of America as the 3rd best in the Nation.  Lieutenant Colonel Padraig Clark is the Professor of Military Science and will depart the posting this summer after three years for an assignment in Baghdad, Iraq.


The Naval ROTC commissioning ceremonies will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Oval Theatre at the Marshall Student Center.

The Air Force ROTC commissioning ceremonies will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the ROTC building on campus, Room 206.

The mission of the Joint Military Leadership Center at USF is to provide students with unique core competencies and skills in leadership development, global understanding, and military/national defense strategies.
