TAMPA, Fla. (July 19, 2012) – When the popular location-based social networking site Foursquare decided to launch a new feature, the company reached out to a select group of universities for help.

The USF Bull Horns badge is only available to Foursquare users who visit and check into various locations on the USF Tampa campus.

The University of South Florida is one of six universities nationwide to partner with Foursquare to launch the site’s latest feature for brands: Updates. Using the new tool, USF is one of the first brands on Foursquare with the ability to send messages to the campus community.

Similar to a tweet on Twitter or a status update on Facebook, the university can now update followers with the latest campus news, such as new programs, student services, and major events.

This is the second time that USF and Foursquare have partnered. When the website launched its custom badge program for universities in 2011, USF was brought on board to develop the customized “USF Bull Horns” badge. Since then, hundreds of users have unlocked the USF badge.
