Lakeland Honors Genshaft

The Lakeland City Council proclaimed Monday “Dr. Judy Genshaft Day” in Lakeland.

LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 16, 2012) – Citing University of South Florida President Judy Genshaft’s commitment to partnerships and “tireless efforts” to bring educational opportunities to Lakeland and Polk County, the Lakeland City Commission declared Monday, Oct. 15 “Dr. Judy Genshaft Day.”

The proclamation was enacted by Lakeland Mayor Gow Fields and the six members of the Lakeland City Commission to laud President Genshaft for the university’s efforts to expand educational opportunities and health care services in Polk County. Last month, USF announced the formation of the USF Health System and Lakeland Regional Medical Center as its first partner. The partnership is expected to add more than 200 medical residencies in the community, which is facing a dire doctor shortage.

“It is most fitting and proper that the City Commission of the City of Lakeland on behalf of all its citizens recognize this gift leader who has brought and continues through her tireless efforts to bring such rich education opportunities to Lakeland and Polk County,” the proclamation read in part.
