USF Summer Commencement Saturday

USF System to confer degrees for 1,500 students in 100th commencement Ceremonies.

TAMPA, Fla. (Aug. 7, 2013) - About 1,500 University of South Florida System students will have degrees conferred during a pair of commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Aug. 10.

USF President Judy Genshaft will preside over the ceremonies, which will be held in the USF Sun Dome at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

This will be USF’s 100th commencement convocation. The first ceremonies were held in December 1963.
The 9 a.m. ceremony will recognize USF Tampa graduates from the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Business, as well as all colleges at USF St. Petersburg. More than 700 graduates are anticipated.

During the ceremony, Karen Holbrook will receive the President’s Global Leadership Award. Holbrook served most recently as USF System Senior Vice President for Global Affairs and International Research and is currently a Senior Advisor to President Genshaft.

The 1:30 p.m. ceremony will recognize graduates from USF Tampa’s Colleges of Behavioral and Community Sciences, Education, Engineering, Global Sustainability, Marine Science, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, The Arts, and Undergraduate Studies. Graduates from all colleges at USF Sarasota-Manatee will also be recognized. More than 750 graduates are anticipated.

Four students in the USF System have been identified as King O’Neal Scholar candidates, earning a cumulative grade point average of 4.0.

Fallon Blessing, earning a bachelor’s degree in Nursing, has been named the Outstanding Graduate by the USF Alumni Association.

USF students will earn a total of 2,840 degrees with many double majoring.

1,863 bachelor’s, 811 master’s, and 166 doctoral and specialist degrees will be conferred.
