Spanish Philosopher Remembered

Three-day forum honors the life of Maria Zambrano, fierce opponent of Francisco Franco.

Special to USF News

TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 14, 2013) – Initiated by the Fundación María Zambrano in Spain, the 3rd International Forum is now being presented in the United State for the first time. It was designed to highlight key moments in the life of Spanish writer and philosopher María Zambrano (1904 – 1991). Her fierce opposition to the reign of Francisco Franco in Spain condemned her to a long exile in both Europe and Latin America. Nevertheless, her contribution to “Contemporary Philosophy,” the method of poetic reasoning, was substantial. Her ideas, influenced by European classical tradition, were nurtured by the ideal of Latin American utopias. It begins today. For more information and the full schedule, click here.
