2013 Outstanding Staff Awards Recap

The USF School of Music Concert Hall had a full house as the university recognized OSA recipients.

The USF School of Music Concert Hall had a full house on Tuesday, April 29th, as the University community came together to recognize and celebrate the 2013 Outstanding Staff Award (OSA) recipients.  This year’s event was decidedly celebratory with a grand entrance including President Judy Genshaft, the 63 OSA recipients, and Rocky!

The event was hosted by President Judy Genshaft who welcomed everyone and spoke about the importance of the Outstanding Staff Awards, the University of South Florida’s most prestigious award for excellence and achievement.   Dr. Stuart Silverman, Dean of the Honors College, announced the OSA individual, team and Student Success recipients and each received their award, check, a photo with President Genshaft, and another with their area VP included.  Recipients were greeted with cheers and applause that rocked the concert hall.  For a complete list of this year’s Outstanding Staff Award recipients, please visit this website

The recipients of this year’s "Employee of the Year" (formerly known as "The Gabor Award") awards, co-sponsored by the Gabor Agency, were in for a special surprise.  President Genshaft announced that beginning with the 2013 OSA, the cash award for "Employee of the Year" was being increased to $2,500, plus for the first time, the recipients would also be receiving a dedicated parking space with a sign indicating “Employee of the Year” for one year, beginning with the fall 2014 semester.  This year’s recipients were Kathy Barnes, Assistant Director, Business Development and Program Management, Innovation Education, and Carrie Brown, Academic Program Specialist, School of Social Work, College of Behavioral & Community Sciences.

The audience also enjoyed a short video created for the event that featured previous recipients and also those who nominated individuals for the award.  The individuals in the video described what the Outstanding Staff Awards meant to them and to the USF community.  The video was produced by Katy Hennig, videographer, and Aimee Blodgett, photographer, University Communications and Marketing.  The music score in the video was written by Philip Charos, a student in the USF School of Music.  To view the video, follow this link.

All of the 2013 OSA recipients then joined President Judy Genshaft in the center of the stage for a group photo.  The grand finale featured music – All Star – confetti, streamers, and a light show.  A fitting end for an amazing group of Outstanding Staff Award recipients!

The ceremony ended with a reception in the lobby of the concert hall where recipients joined family, friends and colleagues to enjoy light refreshments and celebrate their achievements!
