USF School of Mass Communications Honors Top Media Execs

TAMPA, Fla. (April 22, 2008) – University of South Florida School of Mass Communications will honor advertising agency founder Jordan Zimmerman with induction into the Kappa Tau Alpha Hall of Fame and PGA TOUR executive Barbara Emener Karasek with its 2008 Outstanding Alumnus Award April 26. The annual Honors & Awards Banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Sam & Martha Gibbons Alumni Center. For more information, call 813-974-6784.

Zimmerman is founder and chairman of the largest advertising agency in the southeastern United States.

“In addition to leading a major advertising agency, Jordan and his wife Denise are generous donors,” said Edward J. Friedlander, director, “We are truly fortunate to have someone as engaged and caring as a champion of our school’s programs and students.”

Zimmerman Advertising, an Omnicom Group Company based in Fort Lauderdale, currently ranks as the 15th largest advertising agency in the United States, with more than 1,000 full-time associates. The company has offices throughout the country, including New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco and Atlanta. Some of Zimmerman’s clients include Nissan, Papa John’s Pizza, the Miami Dolphins, Six Flags and Pep Boys.

Karasek, a Tampa native now residing in Jacksonville, serves as the director of corporate marketing for the PGA TOUR and oversees the year-round marketing activation initiatives for corporate sponsors. Prior to joining the PGA TOUR, Karasek held positions with NASCAR, the United States Olympic Committee and The Zimmerman Agency. Karasek was an athletic standout at Tampa Preparatory School and is now a member of the Women’s Sports Foundation. She lectures in the University of North Florida Continuing Education program and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity. Her father, William Emener, is a distinguished research professor in USF’s Department of Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling.

“Barbara is a rising star in the business side of the golf world,” said School of Mass Communications Director Edward J. Friedlander. “We are proud of her success. “The USF School of Mass Communications currently boasts more than 6,000 graduates,” Friedlander said. “We have added names to our hall of fame since 1978 and honored outstanding alumni since 1991. It is a tremendous joy to watch our graduates move throughout the communications industry and earn these honors.”
