Psychiatry Hosts Mental Health Awareness Month Lecture Series

Throughout the month of May, the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the USF College of Medicine will be hosting a Wednesday Night Lecture Series. The series will coincide with Mental Health Awareness Month. The sessions are open and free to the public. All lectures are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the USF Psychiatry Building on the second floor. Save the Date: USF Night With the Tampa Bay Rays August 2
USF Night with the Tampa Bay Rays will be held Saturday, August 2 at 6:10 p.m. at Tropicana Field, with the Rays taking on the Detroit Tigers. USF Men's Basketball Coach Stan Heath will throw out the opening pitch, and LL Cool J will perform in a post-game concert, which is included in the game ticket price. Provost Awards Six Graduate Teaching Assistants with Outstanding Teaching Award
On April 15, 2008, Provost Ralph Wilcox presented the Provost's Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Graduate Teaching Assistant to six USF graduate teaching assistants who have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate instruction. The $1,000 cash awards went to Ann Basso, English; Ashley Donnelly, English; Cesar Guerrero, Computer Science & Engineering; Taylor Joy Mitchell, English; Elizabeth Perkins, School of Aging Studies; and John Trainor, Anthropology. In  addition, Provost Wilcox presented commendation plaques to 12 graduate teaching assistants who earned the USF Commendation for Outstanding Teaching by a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Since 1998, USF has formally recognized the exemplary contributions of graduate teaching assistants to excellence in undergraduate education.

Williams Receives Fulbright Award
Kristine Williams, director of the Planning & Corridor Management Program at the USF Center for Urban Transportation Research, was recently awarded a Fulbright Senior Specialist grant to work at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand in June.

Hernandez Awarded 2008 USF PRIDE Award
Dr. Mario Hernandez, professor and department chair of Child and Family Studies, was selected as the faculty recipient of this year's PRIDE award for contributions made to the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. For more information, click here.
