USF Names Interim Dean for College of Arts & Sciences
USF has appointed Eric Eisenberg, PhD, as interim dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, while the university begins a national search for a new dean for that college. The interim appointment comes after Dean John Skvoretz, PhD, announced his resignation effective Aug. 7, 2008. For more information, click here.

USF Lakeland Now USF Polytechnic
Gov. Charlie Crist today signed legislation making USF Lakeland the University of South Florida Polytechnic. For more information, click here.

University Communications & Marketing Launches New Web Site
The Office of University Communications & Marketing has launched its new Web site. The site includes Web templates, downloadable photos, links to official university publications, and many other important resources. USF Health International Inaugural in Panama
On June 2, the USF Health International Foundation officially opened its doors in the country of Panama. Their mission: to increase collaboration in education, research and patient care between USF faculty and students and Panama, as well as other health professionals and organizations throughout the region. New Marshall Student Center Scheduled to Open Aug. 20
The new Marshall Student Center is scheduled to open Aug. 20. The new facility will include a student life tower, a 1,100-seat ballroom, a 700-seat theater, a 75-seat multi-tiered chamber, and more than 20 additional meeting rooms. The facility will also include a variety of food venues, such as Moe's Southwest Grill, Chick-fil-A, Sbarros, Einstein's Bros., Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, the Top of the Palms Restaurant, Beef O' Brady's Sports Grille and more. Save the Date: USF Night With the Rays Aug. 2
USF Night with the Tampa Bay Rays will be held Saturday, Aug. 2 at 6:10 p.m. at Tropicana Field, with the Rays taking on the Detroit Tigers. USF Men's Basketball Coach Stan Heath will throw out the opening pitch, and LL Cool J will perform in a post-game concert, which is included in the game ticket price. Terenzi Receives Golden Partnership Award
Egilda Terenzi, MD, director of clinical and medical services for USF, received the Golden Partnerships Award from the Bureau of Epidemiology of the Florida Department of Health. The award is given annually in recognition for significant contributions in surveillance and epidemiology.

Weisberg Awarded 2007 NOPP Excellence in Partnering Award
Robert Weisberg, PhD, distinguished professor of physical oceanography in the College of Marine Science, received the 2007 National Oceanographic Partnership Program Excellence in Partnering Award.

Patterson Awarded Two Research Fellowships
Cynthia Patterson, PhD, assistant professor of English at USF Lakeland, has been awarded two residential research fellowships to support research on her manuscript titled "Art for the Middle Classes." Patterson was awarded the the American Antiquarian Society's Jay and Deborah Last Fellowship in Visual Culture, and the Winterthur Museum & Country Estate Fellowship.
