President Genshaft's 2015 Winter Message Transcript
Hello, I am Judy Genshaft, President of the University of South Florida System.
I hope you are enjoying this holiday season and taking the time to be with family and friends after a very busy year.
Across the USF System, this is a perfect time to reflect on all that has been accomplished as well as the exciting challenges ahead.
We’ve had one of our best years yet!
USF was just named by the National Science Foundation as one of the Top 25 public research universities in the United States.
Our students, faculty and staff have worked hard to reach our goals and to elevate the USF System to new heights!
In 2015 alone, the USF System granted nearly 13 thousand new degrees. We work very hard to ensure the success of our students and we are proud again to be a leader among Florida's universities in our rising graduation rates.
The talent among our students is amazing and we’re inspired on a daily basis by their creativity and energy.
In fact, Money magazine ranked USF as the Number one university nationwide for military veterans based on affordability and services.
The USF System is deeply connected to the communities of the Tampa Bay Region. This fall, USF was recognized as Florida’s most interactive and engaged campus with our communities by Florida Campus Compact.
Teamwork is really what it’s all about!
We are so proud of how hard Coach Taggart and the football team have worked to build a winning record this year. We all celebrated a great appearance in the Miami Beach Bowl. We can’t wait to see what this team will accomplish next year!
And USF student athletes are winners in the classroom too. For the second straight year, our program posted a record graduation rate and three women’s teams – basketball, softball and tennis – posted perfect 100 percent graduation rates.
Everything we do is a building block to the future – that’s true for our students, faculty and staff and it’s also true for our campuses.
Two-thousand sixteen will be a year of great new projects! In downtown Tampa, we recently dedicated the site for the new Morsani College of Medicine and USF Health Heart Institute.
On the Tampa campus, we will also start construction on a new student village that is the largest public-private partnership in the history of the State University System of Florida. Eventually 2,000 students will call this village home.
USF St. Petersburg is on track for the August 2016 completion of the Kate Tiedemann College of Business.
And USF Sarasota-Manatee, is forming a new college: The College of Science & Mathematics to better serve students and expand on its promising high-tech programs.
And while our campuses are growing, we are committed to keeping the regional economy growing as well.
As a global leader in new U.S. patents, USF faculty and students had a record year in bringing new technologies to market including eleven new start-up companies.
A great reward for us is seeing the progress and promise of our thriving Tampa Bay Region. I know you join me in celebrating these accomplishments and the exciting year ahead.
Happy holidays to all – and as always, Go Bulls!
