Soccer Legend Abby Wambach and “Humans of New York” Creator to Speak at USF

The lectures are both free and open to the public.

TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 24, 2016) – World Cup soccer champion Abby Wambach and photographer and creator of the Humans of New York (HONY) project Brandon Stanton will hold upcoming lectures at the University of South Florida as part of the student-run University Lecture Series. Wambach will appear on Thursday, March 10 and Stanton on Tuesday, April 5 during USF Week. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with both lectures beginning at 8 p.m. in the Marshall Student Center.

One of the greatest soccer players of all time, Wambach is the all-time leading scorer in international soccer history with 184 career goals. An intense competitor known for clutch goal scoring, fan favorite Wambach led the USA in scoring in the 2008 and 2011 Women’s World Cup tournaments, and the 2004 and 2012 Olympics. As an ambassador for organizations such as Right to Play and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), she is a leading inspirational voice for women’s sports, as well as for her generation of female soccer players and athletes.

Stanton started the photography blog Humans of New York in 2010 as a photographic census, but when he began collecting quotes and short stories from the people he met, the project began to take on a different character. The portraits and captions became the subject of a vibrant blog providing the world with daily glimpses into the lives of New Yorkers. The blog is now followed by nearly 14 million people, has become the fastest growing Arts and Humanities page on Facebook and is the subject of a #1 New York Times bestselling book. Stanton’s third book,HONY: Stories, was released in October 2015.
