Gov. Charlie Crist signed a bill giving the University of South Florida Lakeland the same autonomy as other branch campuses in the USF system and officially establishing its new name: USF Polytechnic. For more information, click here.

New Office Depot Contract for Office Supplies & Furniture

The Employee Assistance Program Seminar July 22
The Employee Assistance Program will host a seminar titled "Managing Transitions" Tuesday, July 22 from noon to 1 p.m. in SVC2130. This seminar will provide a common framework for understanding the dynamics of change, phases of transition and strategies for success. The presenter is Tim Miller, director of USF's Human Resources/Training & Professional Development. For more information, click here.
USF Night With the Rays August 2
USF Night with the Tampa Bay Rays will be held Saturday, Aug. 2 at 6:10 p.m. at Tropicana Field, with the Rays taking on the Detroit Tigers. USF Men's Basketball Coach Stan Heath will throw out the opening pitch, and LL Cool J will perform in a post-game concert, which is included in the game ticket price. "Quit Smoking Now" Program To Begin This Fall
This fall, the Employee Assistance Program will launch the "Quit Smoking Now" Program. This six-week program will be available to faculty and staff at no charge. For more information, visit the EAP Web site.

USF Human Research Protections Program Fully Accredited
The Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs Inc, (AAHRPP) has granted full accreditation to USF, the only university in Florida to achieve this milestone. For more information, click here.
USF College of Business Earns Dual AACSB Accreditation
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business has reaffirmed accreditation for the USF College of Business, a move that keeps the university on a list of just 169 institutions worldwide recognized for excellence in overall business and accounting programs. Less than 10 percent of the estimated 10,000 business schools worldwide are accredited by this international organization.
Briscoe Honored for Community Building & Transforming Neighborhoods
Richard Briscoe, assistant professor of child & family studies at USF's Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute, has been selected as one of the recipients of the 2008 Dorothy Richardson Award for Resident Leadership by NeighborWorks. The award is given each year to community leaders from around the country in honor of their outstanding contributions to their communities. For more information, click here.
Cissna Receives Communication Award
Ken Cissna, professor of communication, will receive the 2008 Gerald M. Phillips Award for Distinguished Applied Communication Scholarship at the National Communication Association's convention in November.
Bochner Receives Communications, Distinguished Alumni Awards
Art Bochner, professor of communication, received the Michael M. Osborn Teacher-Scholar Award from the Southern States Communication Association. Bochner also received the first "Distinguished Alumni Award" from the College of Arts and Sciences at California State University (Pennsylvania), where he received a bachelor's degree in Speech Communication in 1968.
Jones Wins Outstanding Feminist Teacher-Mentor Award
Stacy Holman Jones, assistant professor of communication, won the 2007 Outstanding Feminist Teacher-Mentor Award given by the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender.

Rains & Nadeau Receive Scientific & Technical Achievement Award
Mark Rains, assistant professor of ecohydrology in USF's Department of Geology, and his colleague, Tracie-Lynn Nadeau of the U.S. Environmental Agency (EPA), have received the 2007 Level I Scientific and Technical Achievement Award (STAA) from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a synthesis article included in the "Featured Collection" of the Journal of the American Water Resources Association (43: 118-133). Brown Appointed to National Disaster Mental Health Subcommittee
Dr. Lisa Brown, assistant professor in the Florida Mental Health Institute (FMHI), has been appointed to the Disaster Mental Health Subcommittee under the National Biodefense Science Board Federal Advisory Committee. This subcommittee will make recommendations to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) relating to catastrophic health events. For more information, click here.

Media Innovation Team Wins 2008 Bronze Telly Award
The USF Media Innovation Team has been selected to receive a 2008 Bronze Telly Award for its production of the USF 50th Anniversary Motion Timeline.
