Meet the Dean

USF College of Graduate Studies Dean, Dwayne Smith, has a background in forensic science and actively conducts research in numerous areas related to criminology.

Dean Dwayne Smith, PhD, mentors and guides graduate and doctoral students in the College of Graduate Studies, providing leadership and helping them to complete their educational journey at the University of South Florida. Smith truly enjoys continuing studies and being in a position that allows him the opportunity to influence students and make a significant difference in their lives.

With a background in criminology, Smith studies forensic science and actively writes and researches in the field of criminal justice. Smith’s dedication to teaching and passion for researching often brings him to the office on the weekend.

Smith grew up in Pasadena, Texas and attended the University of Houston for undergraduate and graduate studies, venturing on to North Carolina to complete his academic journey, earning a PhD in Sociology at Duke University.
